Everyone is welcome! We welcome skaters of all abilities and ages (we currently have skaters aged from 4 – 60 years old!)

Taster Sessions.  All newcomers irrespective of experience must attend one of our Taster Sessions. These usually take place on a Saturday or Sunday when we have spaces in our classes. The taster lasts 45 minutes and costs £5.00 (this includes skate hire if needed)

Join the waiting list for our net taster sessionWe will contact you a week or so before we hold the taster. If you can make it, we will send you details of the taster.

Don’t buy skates! Don’t worry about buying new skates as we have skates you can hire at £1 per hour. We advise not rushing into buying skates until you are sure skating is the sport for you / your child.  If you do want to buy skates, please read our Guide to buying skates and talk to our coaches who can advise you.  If you already have skates, you are welcome to use them however please ensure they are safe and the wheels are clean.

Do buy protective gear!  It is important that you understand that Roller Skating can be a dangerous sport and injuries, while uncommon do happen.  We particularly recommend wrist guards and soft (volleyball style) knee pads.

Read our Rules of Safe Skating.  These will be covered in more detail at our safety briefing at our taster session.

Wear casual /comfortable clothes.  Wear clothing that will not restrict your movement.  Avoid baggy clothing or scarves as these may get tangled in your skates.

Payment – We cannot take cash so please pay the £5.00 by electronic bank transfer before or as you arrive for the class. (We will give you the bank details before you attend)

On arrival – When you arrive for the taster,  head for the sports hall and make yourself known to one of our coaches.

What to expect at the taster session.
We will:

  • sort you out with hire skates if needed.
  • give a  safety briefing
  • ask you to sign a form confirming that you have received the briefing.
  • teach you some skating skills appropriate for your ability.

At the end of the session if you have hired skates, please return them.

Please let us know how you got on.

What to expect at our recreational classes.
Our recreational classes are usually for 1 hour.   We begin with a skate around for 10-15 minutes to warm up.

For skaters who are absolute beginners, we would ask a non-skater known to the skater (usually a parent/carer) to walk the skater around. Depending on progress, they may need to do this for a few weeks before the skater is ready to join one of our coaching groups.

Generally, over the next 40-45 minutes, skaters will be split into smaller groups based on their grades.  Skaters will learn different skills in each grade; For example for grade 1 they will learn how to stand up on skates, balance, skate forwards, and stop; with each grade, the difficulty increases. Skaters who show potential and a good work ethic may be selected to join our competitive skaters.
